The Cincinnati Kid (1965)
Country: US
Technical: col 113m
Director: Norman Jewison
Cast: Steve McQueen, Edward G. Robinson, Karl Malden, Tuesday Weld, Ann-Margret, Joan Blondell
Synopsis:
A streetwise hustler joins a high profile card game which goes on all night.
Review:
Less aggressive, more chill than The Hustler, this tightly structured and atmospheric imitation is in some ways an improvement. The colour photography and direction are very fine (Jewison's camera is always where the action is), and the veterans among the cast act everyone else off the screen. Originally slated for Sam Peckinpah and Spencer Tracy - hard to imagine how those two would have got on!
