The Company Men (2010)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 104m
Director: John Wells
Cast: Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Cooper, Kevin Costner, Maria Bello

Synopsis:

In Massachusetts, as recession bites, a group of corporate employees fall victim to the strategic downsizing of their company, calculated to maintain its stock value.

Review:

It would be a Weinstein Company film that focused on the unemployment angst of men with six-figure salaries, manicured lawns and a mistress half their age, but thanks to directorial restraint and some pedigree performers given the chance to breathe this manages to find the human and humane in its subject matter. The keynote, whether among the white or blue collar characters, is building something, even if it does happen to be naval destroyers; however, the closing scene, in which the battle-hardened survivors regroup inside a rusting abandoned shipyard to relaunch the construction side of their activity, is utopian to say the least.
