Dallas Buyers Club (2013)
Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 117m
Director: Jean-Marc Vallée
Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Jared Leto
Synopsis:
The 1980s: a Texas hellraiser contracts AIDS and overcomes both his own homophobia and the constraints imposed by the Food and Drugs Administration on the availability of unapproved drugs to those in need.
Review:
The true story of Ron Woodroof, and something of an issue movie, sure enough, with the contingent virtues of potency and shortcomings of narrative inevitability. The star makes off with the film, contributing a fully invested performance that set the seal on his comeback and earned him the Oscar. But everyone is very good, and Vallée was an interesting choice that pays off, with a semi-documentary style that is nevertheless up close and personal.
