Synopsis:
Scientists in a besieged seclusion centre investigate the zombie phenomenon, experimenting with ideas such as re-conditioning. Meanwhile the horde outside threatens to break through even their aggressive military protection.
Review:
Third and - at the time, it seemed - final part in the zombie cycle by the Pittsburgh-based filmmaker. The satire here comes in the form of the ultra-right wing nature of the scientists and their militaristic accomplices, with the zombies signifying some sort of people's revolt. There are also the customary incidental humorous touches to be found in the garb of the undead (an American footballer?) and the subplot of the 're-adjusted' zombie. The gore effects were the most graphic yet, with actors literally ripped apart before our eyes (and with surprising ease); but in the end there was nothing much new, with signs of the director obsessively recycling his ideas (the process would continue!)
