Day of Wrath (1943)
(Vredens Dag)
Country: DK
Technical: bw 105m
Director: Carl Dreyer
Cast: Thorkild Roose, Lisbeth Movin, Sigrid Neiiendam
Synopsis:
A witch hunt rages in a seventeenth century Danish community, and the priest's young wife is in love with his son.
Review:
Unexpectedly, for all that it is not denied, the two women are actually witches. This is important for Dreyer's theme of persecution: they are different, therefore they must be eliminated. They are also more vibrant than the other characters. Hard to imagine that this was made during the war - or is it?
