Deep Water (2006)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: bw/col 92m
Director: Louise Osmond, Jerry Rothwell
Cast: Donald Crowhurst, Tilda Swinton, Simon Russell Beale (voices)

Synopsis:

The story of the 1968/9 Sunday Times round the world non-stop single-handed yacht race, in which Donald Crowhurst attempted to win with the fastest time, sailing a trimaran of his own design. Of the nine sailors who took part, only one qualified to finish.

Review:

Unusual for a documentary to focus on failure, but that is what this does, and indeed it is possible to sniff the aura of failure around the hapless figure of Crowhurst from the early stages. Despite the presence of astonishing footage taken by the participants, this is pretty much a talking heads affair and a plodder at that, but sailors will find much to engage them.
