Docteur Jekyll et les femmes (1981)

£0.00

(The Blood of Dr. Jekyll, The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Lady Osbourne)

Country: FR
Technical: col 92m
Director: Walerian Borowczyk
Cast: Udo Kier, Marina Pierro, Patrick Magee, Howard Vernon

Synopsis:

Doctor Jekyll holds an engagement party for himself and Miss Osbourne, to which the great and good are invited. However, a sexual psychopath has infiltrated the celebrations, and bodies begin to accumulate.

Review:

Strikingly shot in dreamy soft focus through open doors and in high-ceilinged rooms, this is most akin to La Bête in its heroine's sexual awakening (or indeed 'heightened sexual awareness') and in containing several deliberately risible lines. It features a marvellous late performance by Patrick Magee and eschews unnecessary exposition by sensibly assuming familiarity with the tale in its audience, compressing all the action into the course of one evening which gets progressively out of hand. The UK release was heavily cut, turning the climactic bloodstained orgy in the carriage into a confused mess. This is, nevertheless, an atmospheric and powerfully erotic piece of work.
