Dr. No (1962)
Country: GB
Technical: col 111m
Director: Terence Young
Cast: Sean Connery, Ursula Andress, Joseph Wiseman
Synopsis:
Agent 007 travels to Jamaica to investigate a hit on MI6 operations there, and suspects the mysterious island of the oriental Dr. No of having designs against the US space programme.
Review:
This location-shot, and beautifully photographed Technicolor thriller ushered in a new genre of hokum, essentially an offshoot of the crime picture. There are a few holes in the production (it was early days for Eon), not to mention the screenplay but, all things considered, as a first effort it is still one of the best: it is not overblown, does not jump around the globe, and moves apace. And everyone is about the age they ought to be.
