The Decameron (1971)

(Il Decameron)

Country: IT
Technical: Technicolor 112m
Director: Pier Paolo Pasolini
Cast: Franco Citti, Ninetto Davoli, Jovan Jovanovich

Synopsis:

Boccaccio's fourteenth century tales of earthly love in a Tuscan landscape.

Review:

These tales, and those that followed, clearly appealed to Pasolini in that they were among the first literature to deal not with gods and heroes (not exclusively anyway) but with the life of the common man and woman. His handheld shooting style and primitive editing are oddly suited to the form and this film at any rate has a briskness of pace in keeping with the tales.
