£0.00

Country: GB/CAN/US
Technical: DeLuxe 101m
Director: David Cronenberg
Cast: Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts, Vincent Cassel, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Sinéad Cusack, Jerzy Skolimowski

Synopsis:

A midwife delivers an underage and dying teenage mother of her baby and discovers a diary, which tells of how the girl came to be the victim of sex trafficking. At the same time, in an effort to get it translated she unwittingly stumbles upon the girl's wicked nemesis, a Russian mafioso masquerading as restaurateur, and his driver, who has one or two secrets of his own.

Review:

An exposé of the corrupt underbelly of contemporary London ultimately turns into a darn good thriller, and one with gripping performances and its director's own particular brand of poetically gruesome violence. The underworld dialogue creaks in places.
