Synopsis:

Review:
Modishly achronological, rapid fire in editing and dialogue, and shot with so jittery a handheld camera it genuinely feels as though the crew mounted the entire thing for real, this one step beyond City of God is nothing if not grittily realistic and was a huge commercial success at home. Unschooled foreign audiences will find the subtitles hard to keep up with without missing all the action, which may not be a bad thing for sensitive stomachs. Certainly it does not strike a blow for Brazilian tourism - or feminism.
