Enduring Love (2004)
Country: GB/US
Technical: DeLuxe/scope 100m
Director: Roger Michell
Cast: Daniel Craig, Rhys Ifans, Samantha Morton, Bill Nighy, Susan Lynch, Corin Redgrave
Synopsis:
After a freak balloon accident an English professor and author, who was about to propose to his girlfriend at the time, is led to ponder on the gratuitousness of life and question the value of his love together with that of God's. Meanwhile another man who was present at the accident has begun stalking him, claiming that a truly special love passed between them that day.
Review:
A very literary subject inevitably resolves itself on screen into an uneasy thriller concentrating on the stalker action, as one's exasperation with the lead character mounts. Nevertheless it is filmed with imagination, foregrounding the director's close-up, handheld style, and showcases some considerable acting talent. Never did the Oxfordshire countryside look so beguiling.
