Everybody Knows (2018)
(Todos lo saben)
Country: SP/FR/IT
Technical: col 133m
Director: Asghar Farhadi
Cast: Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Ricardo Darín
Synopsis:
A family reunion around a wedding is the unexpected setting for a kidnapping when one of the family's teenage daughters is snatched. Meanwhile a former lover becomes increasingly implicated in the search and the negotiations that follow, and when the husband arrives from Argentina sparks fly.
Review:
Exploring themes already encountered in his other work, such as The Past, and with a narrative bearing striking resemblances to that of About Elly, Farhadi's Spanish film nevertheless comes up feeling vaguely fresh, with a nice red herring early on when drone footage you think will be key to the search is in fact nothing more than voguish window dressing. Good acting and, again, a Renoirian understanding of each and every character's motives.
