L'Effrontée (1985)
(An Impudent Girl)
Country: FR
Technical: Fujicolor 96m
Director: Claude Miller
Cast: Charlotte Gainsbourg, Bernadette Lafont, Jean-Claude Brialy, Jean-Philippe Ecoffey
Synopsis:
A pubescent girl faces another summer in the sweaty tranquillity of her home town when her life's potential is transformed by the arrival of a child prodigy pianist to give a concert. She uses the devotion of a soldier on leave to get closer to the young star, and fixes all her hopes and love on the possibility of escape as the latter's new manager, forgetful of her sickly young friend, her father and housekeeper, all of whom love her.
Review:
Aside from capturing beautifully that peculiar ambience of summer in a French country town, the long vacation with nothing much to do, etc., this film is dominated by the shattering self-assurance of the young Gainsbourg, who is deeply disappointed with her life but nevertheless determined to do something about it. The rest is routine national cinema fare.
