L'Emmerdeur (1973)
Country: FR/IT
Technical: Eastmancolor 85m
Director: Edouard Molinaro
Cast: Lino Ventura, Jacques Brel, Caroline Cellier, Nino Castelnuovo
Synopsis:
A hired assassin preparing to undertake a hit from a hotel room opposite police headquarters finds himself in adjoining rooms with a suicidal jilted husband, whose life he saves and who thenceforth steadfastly refuses to leave him alone.
Review:
The François Pignon character as played by Brel is pathetic rather than funny, and uncomfortably so at times, but Ventura makes a fine antagonist, his jaw set with repressed violence. As a scenario the length does not sustain the interest, but the punchline is neat, if unlikely.
