Fast Food Nation (2006)
Country: US/GB
Technical: col 113m
Director: Richard Linklater
Cast: Greg Kinnear, Ashley Johnson, Patricia Arquette, Bobby Cannavale, Ethan Hawke, Kris Kristofferson, Luis Guzmán, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Bruce Willis
Synopsis:
A meat processing plant in Cody, Colorado is the focus for disparate characters: the wetback workforce obliged to work there, the suppliers and buyers, the local students who work in the outlets, and a marketing executive sent by a leading hamburger purveyor to investigate the presence of fecal particles in the meat.
Review:
A frighteningly plausible vision of a society consumed by the dollar machine, with practically every decision taken for financial gain, a world where the fate of the immigrants uncomfortably mirrors that of the hapless cattle that get turned into patties and passively resist the action taken by the students to free them. An exposé more effective than the likes of Michael Moore's own efforts for adopting a lower-key approach and neglecting to name names.
