Fort Apache, the Bronx (1981)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 123m
Director: Daniel Petrie
Cast: Paul Newman, Ed Asner, Ken Wahl, Danny Aiello, Rachel Ticotin

Synopsis:

Life for the cops of the South Bronx precinct is somewhat like life on the frontier at times, surrounded by hostiles. We follow Officer Murphy in his David and Goliath-like struggle against cynicism and injustice.

Review:

Part of the Joseph Wambaugh subgenre of realist cop movies, in reaction to the Freebie and the Bean/Dirty Harry variety, this is a worthy enough addition which afforded Newman a change of pace playing a blue-collar character. Audiences, however, had had enough of miserabilism, Reagan was in the White House and the film did not do well.
