From Here to Eternity (1953)
Country: US
Technical: bw 118m
Director: Fred Zinnemann
Cast: Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, Frank Sinatra, Donna Reed, Ernest Borgnine
Synopsis:
Love and death on an army base on Honolulu just prior to Pearl Harbor.
Review:
A powerful and frank - for the time - piece of drama, which does not avoid becoming a little overwrought. Now its charm lies in this very 'sleazy and steamy' quality, which is well sustained by a superb cast and technical team. It ends, however, more conventionally as the various characters' stories are shrunk into insignificance by the Japanese onslaught, and the characterisation of Pruitt is unconvincing towards the end.
