The Front (1976)
Country: US
Technical: col 95m
Director: Martin Ritt
Cast: Woody Allen, Zero Mostel, Michael Murphy
Synopsis:
During the McCarthy years, a cashier acts as a front for blacklisted writers and himself has to face the inquisition.
Review:
A great tribute to the fallen, and a worthy recreation of that time, with Sinatra's Young at Heart doing sterling service, this comedy drama offered the star a break from self-authored projects. Quite funny when it means to be, it is perhaps a mite too idealistic in its retrospective 'fuck you' to McCarthyism: how many Howard Princes were there, if any, who would dare say such a thing?
