Hannibal Brooks (1969)

£0.00

Country: GB/US
Technical: col 101m
Director: Michael Winner
Cast: Oliver Reed, Michael J. Pollard, John Alderton, Wolfgang Preiss

Synopsis:

A POW working in a Bavarian zoo forms an attachment for the elephant he is looking after and, when the train to transport the animals to Austria is commandeered, he obtains permission to walk her there, under armed guard of course.

Review:

Winner got his big chance with this POW adventure, which borrows somewhat from The Great Escape in its conception of the Pollard character. It's a gentle film, with the interplay of Reed and the elephant working well, though standard heroics ultimately take over.
