Synopsis:
Ernst develops a fatherly attachment to a boy from former Yugoslavia, who shares his passion for aeroplanes, and pursues his project of housing his collection of paintings in a museum at the abandoned mine, with the help of his niece and a French architect. However, they encounter determined opposition from the townsfolk of Schabbach and the episode ends in despair and a double tragedy.

A particularly bitter and poignant film which views the European dream with increasing scepticism. International rivalry underpins the bargaining over the construction of the Simon Museum, and the refugee who may or may not in reality be Ernst's illegitimate son finds only suspicion and heartbreak in his new homeland. On the plus side the bond between Hermann and his daughter grows stronger and Clarissa slowly convalesces from her cancer treatment.
