Hollywood Shuffle (1987)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 82m
Director: Robert Townsend
Cast: Robert Townsend, Anne-Marie Johnson

Synopsis:

A black actor tries to make it in Hollywood.

Review:

Picking up perhaps on a theme mentioned by Eddie Murphy at the 1988 Oscars, namely that black performers can still only attain success in stereotyped roles, Townsend takes him at his word and even gives him a battering in the film's funniest sequence. The film is a freewheeling satire of the Kentucky Fried Movie variety. Not all of it comes off, but much of it does oddly enough: the jokes are not new, but the angle is, the presentation sharp, and the boy has clearly got talent. (Footnight of hindsight: he didn't make it.)
