House of Usher (1960)
Country: US
Technical: col/scope 85m
Director: Roger Corman
Cast: Vincent Price, Myrna Fahey, Mark Damon
Synopsis:
A man calls on his fiancée, but finds his future brother-in-law less than sympathetic to the match, on account of a family curse which seems to emanate from the house itself.
Review:
Corman's first prestigious Poe adaptation is an impressive production, throbbing with colour and atmosphere, and the oft-to-be-repeated threat of premature burial. Price imparted a spurious touch of class to the enterprise, which in any event transcended the producer-director's staple drive-in product.
