House of Wax (1953)
Country: US
Technical: col/3-D 88m
Director: André De Toth
Cast: Vincent Price, Carolyn Jones, Frank Lovejoy, Phyllis Kirk
Synopsis:
A creator of wax simulacra is thought to have perished in his museum when his associate burnt it down for the insurance, but re-emerges some time later with a new exhibit, featuring the self same chamber of horrors his partner had so insisted on having. Only this time there is a chilling new ingredient.
Review:
One of the first 3-D films but don't let that put you off: this is a classic piece of Vincent Price, launching him on the exploitation career he was born to enjoy. Broadly a remake of Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933), like that film it uses colour to chilling effect.
