The House on Carroll Street (1988)

Country: US
Technical: col 100m
Director: Peter Yates
Cast: Kelly McGillis, Jeff Daniels, Mandy Patinkin

Synopsis:

1951: a picture editor for Life magazine finds herself out of a job after refusing to cooperate with a congressional committee, and stumbles on a government plot to smuggle Nazi war criminals into the country disguised as Jews.

Review:

Absurdly plotted collection of Hitchcockian clichés - spying in graveyards, refuge in a theatre and bookshop, the villain's fall, hopelessly contrived, from the top of Grand Central station - with a cast incapable, save for Patinkin, of distracting from them. A curiously old-fashioned entertainment.
