I Heart Huckabees (2004)
Country: US/GER/GB
Technical: DeLuxe/2.35:1 106m
Director: David O. Russell
Cast: Jason Schwartzman, Mark Wahlberg, Dustin Hoffman, Lily Tomlin, Jude Law, Naomi Watts, Isabelle Huppert
Synopsis:
A conservationist is neurotic about a series of coincidences as well as being removed from the leadership of the Coalition to protect the woods and marshes; he is indeed tricked by a smooth employee of the Huckabees retail company who is dating the face of Huckabees on whom he also has a fixation. He hires a pair of existential detectives to shadow him and help guide his view of the universe so that his life has meaning, but he is seduced by a rival philosopher-therapist and swayed by her nihilistic views. Meanwhile a firefighter with an obsession about the burning of fossil fuels acts as his 'other' and accompanies him on his emotional journey.
Review:
Positively one of the most extraordinary comedies ever to come out of Hollywood, this sophisticated Hellzapoppin-style nonsense comes across like Woody Allen on speed, losing the viewer on more than one occasion, but is never less than fun to watch, being formally inventive and acted by a charismatic cast.
