I'm All Right Jack (1959)
Country: GB
Technical: bw 104m
Director: John Boulting
Cast: Ian Carmichael, Peter Sellers, Irene Handl, Terry-Thomas, Richard Attenborough, Dennis Price, Liz Fraser, Victor Maddern, John Le Mesurier, Margaret Rutherford, Miles Malleson
Synopsis:
Fresh from his experience in the army, Stanley Windrush resolves to go into industry, and his uncle Bertie finds him a position as a worker at his missile plant, where he will perform the added public service of scuppering an export contract and triggering a general strike.
Review:
Bravura satire of industrial relations and the overturning of the old order, i.e. the war years, when everyone pulled together and self-sacrifice was the norm. It may be, of course, that this is partly a myth propagated by the national film industry of the time. Anyway, this classic British comedy has pace, bite, and a fistful of prime performances from a cast that is like a who's who of British comedy. It also has some of the choicest puns and innuendos from the days when more fun could be had suggesting what you weren't allowed to say.
