In Front of Your Face (2021)
(Dangsin-eolgul-apeseo)
Country: KOR
Technical: col 85m
Director: Sang-soo Hong
Cast: Yunhee Cho, Lee Hye-jeong, Hae-hyo Kwon
Synopsis:
A former actress returns to Seoul from the U.S. to be with her sister, and to meet a director who wants to make a film with her. As she strives to enjoy the beauty of the present, she nevertheless finds pieces of the past crowding in; as to the future, she harbours a heavy secret.
Review:
Dramatically flimsy, but luminously played, portrait of a 'beautiful soul', its weakness being a poverty of means that prevents the camera from getting close enough to the characters (scenes are broken into long takes, the camera slowly zooming in and out camcorder-style, and the lighting is flat and naturalistic).
