Into the West (1992)
Country: EIRE/GB
Technical: col 97m
Director: Mike Newell
Cast: Gabriel Byrne, Ellen Barkin, Ciarán Fitzgerald
Synopsis:
Two boys set off on a quest when the horse their grandpa gave them is stolen from their Dublin tower block.
Review:
What starts off a familiar slice of social realism turns, as we leave the urban landscape, into something more bucolic, as its title suggests. Byrne is tremendously good as the 'old timer' they fall in with, and the film conveys a liberating sense of timeless 'Irishness'.
