The Imitation Game (2014)

£0.00

Country: GB/US
Technical: col/2.35:1 114m
Director: Morten Tyldum
Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Mark Strong, Charles Dance

Synopsis:

The story of Alan Turing, from his school days at Sherborne to his arrest for soliciting a male prostitute, but centred around his helming of the efforts to find the cypher used to supply the settings for the Enigma decoding device.

Review:

So far removed from the derring-do of the Dougray Scott film (Enigma) as to be both oddly familiar in its setting and yet unrecognisable in its portrayal of the character. This is very much a personal story, brought out by the wounded but adamantine performance of Cumberbatch in the role of Turing, and Goode and Strong are both excellent in support. Period trappings are impeccable, as expected in this kind of thing, and Britain's grey-haired audiences flocked to get their fix of British acting, British historical subject matter, and audible dialogue.
