A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.39:1 116m
Director: Seth MacFarlane
Cast: Seth MacFarlane, Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Neil Patrick Harris

Synopsis:

A sheep farmer in a two-bit wild west town loses his girl to a moustachoed retailer, but is rescued from despair by the abused wife of the most dangerous outlaw in the territory, travelling incognito.

Review:

This prima facie endearing attempt to revive the comedy western has some winning moments from its cast but forgets that Bob Hope and Son of Paleface were only funny because of what was left unsaid. Here every joke is pushed deliberately beyond the bounds of taste, and the slapstick is played as gross-out violence. All of which rather rules out the family audiences most likely to be amused by the simplistic plot mechanics and puerile characterisations. Monument Valley looks great, but could you really raise sheep there?
