Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (2012)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 93m
Director: Eric Darnell, Tom McGrath, Conrad Vernon
Cast: Voice cast: Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen, Frances McDormand

Synopsis:

Alex and his friends follow the penguins to Monte Carlo, and then join a travelling circus in order to evade a psychotic policewoman from animal control, who wants to add a lion's head to her collection.

Review:

Unlike most full-length animated adventures, which at least have a baseline reality on which to construct their perilous set-pieces, however far-fetched, this demented sequel carries on like a Roadrunner cartoon for ninety minutes, merrily piling one implausibility on another, and not even starting from a rational premise (that animals in the wilds of Kenya would wish to undertake the hazardous journey back to their zoo in New York City). Meanwhile we are still expected to emote with the characters when they, for some reason or other, feel betrayed, or threatened by the plainly indestructible villainess Dubois (more American francophobia here). There remains the fleeting amusement of a theme-park ride, and one or two musical numbers, to distract from a scenario which is essentially the same as the equally aimless Pirates! An Adventure with Scientists!
