Country: US/GB
Technical: col 89m
Director: Eric Darnell, Tom McGrath
Cast: doc. (Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen, Alec Baldwin

Synopsis:

En route from Madagascar, piloted by a quartet of resourceful penguins under the aegis of King Julien the lemur, our four friends from NYC zoo crash land on the plains of Kilimanjaro. There Alex is reunited with his family and Melman finds love, but the envy of a passed-over lion finds new expression, while a coach load or two of NYC tourists provide valuable hardware for the group's onward journey.

Review:

The second instalment of this witty, ingeniously drawn franchise embraces the problem of individuality amid the plenitude of the Africa savannah, while sidestepping the issue of a carnivore/herbivore eco-system. The cheeky lemurs and penguins continue to provide incidental humour, and the excellent voice cast helps develop the characters we have come to cherish. Meanwhile the vaguely Germanic granny from the subway in the first instalment returns to provide some queasy cartoon violence.
