(Stowaway Girl)

Country: GB
Technical: bw 87m
Director: Guy Hamilton
Cast: Trevor Howard, Pedro Armendáriz, Elsa Martinelli, Donald Pleasence

Synopsis:

The skipper of a freighter in the south Atlantic is distracted from his drunkenness by a captivating young girl his Italian engineer smuggles aboard from a Latin American port.

Review:

One of those wonderfully seedy films to come out of Britain in the Fifties (SOS Pacific was another), depicting clashes of temperament between men stretched on the rack of futility. Martinelli, 22 at the time, sizzles as the jailbait who falls for the puffy, boozed up and embittered Howard, while Armendáriz is the loyal sea dog who even overlooks being deprived of his dream of heaven. Great economy of means at the service of a simple story of love renounced, with Hamilton giving equal weight to his four performers.
