Masada (1981)

(The Antagonists)

Country: US
Technical: col 394m (TV) /122m
Director: Boris Sagal
Cast: Peter O'Toole, Peter Strauss, Barbara Carrera

Synopsis:

For two years a Roman army lays siege to the rock fortress of Masada, stronghold of a band of Jewish zealots.

Review:

Sheared down from a six-hour TV movie, this cinema version suffers from over-simplistic characterization of the Romans as workaday soldiers (played by Brits) and the Jews as righteous martyrs (played by Americans). The TV version was more ambivalent, giving more screen time to the unappealing rivalry between members of the Jewish camp.
