Miami Vice (2006)
Country: US/GER
Technical: Technicolor/2.35:1 133m
Director: Michael Mann
Cast: Colin Farrell, James Foxx, Gong Li, Ciaran Hinds
Synopsis:
Two Miami cops go undercover to book a Colombian drugrunner whose organisation has already been the death of an FBI operation; one of them becomes romantically involved with the drug baron's front woman, which probably leads to the ultimate failure of the second operation.
Review:
A pretty ho-hum plot for what is presumably meant to be a one-off homage to the series that made the director's name; but then what can you do with cops and drugs that is fresh by now? The star performances are neither here nor there, except for Gong Li, but Mann's newfound grainy technique and edgy camerawork lifts it from the routine; he even attaches the camera to the gun arm of a mobster.
