Midnight Lace (1960)
Country: US
Technical: col 103m
Director: David Miller
Cast: Doris Day, Rex Harrison, John Gavin, Myrna Loy
Synopsis:
An American in London, newly wed to an English executive, is convinced she is being stalked, but no one believes her and she starts to doubt her own sanity.
Review:
The one with the extraordinary sense of London topography, this Hitchcockian thriller is unfortunately no Suspicion but a formulaic screenplay with all the customary beats of sceptical policemen, mysterious phone calls, etc. The colour cinematography looks good, but this is another example of Day attempting to break out of the musical comedy mould, with strained results.
