Mommie Dearest (1981)
Country: US
Technical: col 129m
Director: Frank Perry
Cast: Faye Dunaway, Diana Scarwid, Steve Forrest
Synopsis:
Film version of Christina Crawford's sensational account of her stormy relationship with her mother, Joan Crawford.
Review:
Featuring scenes of abuse with a wire coathanger and throttling on the living-room carpet, this is as close to tabloid journalism as Hollywood biopics got, depicting the star as alternately bitch, psychopath or monster. Undeniably entertaining though Dunaway's histrionics are, they hardly add up to a portrait of a human being, and the waxwork makeup to which she has to submit doesn't help.
