Monster (2003)
Country: US/GER
Technical: FotoKem 109m
Director: Patty Jenkins
Cast: Charlize Theron, Christina Ricci, Bruce Dern, Scott Wilson
Synopsis:
A victim of child abuse grows up nevertheless nursing dreams of better things, but when she gives up hope she ultimately resorts to soliciting for money. It is shortly after meeting the girl who might have changed her life that she kills her first 'john'.
Review:
A true story of a woman who waited on death row for twelve years before going to the chair. Like Dead Man Walking before it, it does not attempt to palliate the heinousness of the crimes she commits and Theron's personal makeover (if that's the right word) does nothing to glamorize things. However powerful, well intentioned and acted it may be, though, its repetitions produce diminishing returns for the entertainment seeker.
