Mr. & Mrs. Bridge (1990)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 124m
Director: James Ivory
Cast: Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Robert Sean Leonard

Synopsis:

In the 1940s an old-fashioned couple are held together by his staunch principles and her familial instincts, but the more progressive values of the children become grounds for conflict.

Review:

Taking a break from the English upper class milieu, Merchant-Ivory-Jhabvala returned to America, and the setting of their earlier James adaptations. It is also, more or less consciously, a celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Newman's career, and they both shine in these autumnal roles. The production is as usual impeccable, but there is a touch of dryness that makes it less memorable than usual.
