My Blueberry Nights (2007)
Country: HK/FR/CHI
Technical: col/scope 95m
Director: Wong Kar-Wai
Cast: Norah Jones, Jude Law, David Strathairn, Rachel Weisz, Natalie Portman
Synopsis:
After a lover's spite breaks her heart, a young woman befriends the owner of a Bronx cafe before setting out on a state-hopping voyage of self-discovery.
Review:
Aesthetically reminiscent of earlier films by the director, such as Chung King Express, with its soft, neon-inflected lighting and mobile camerawork, this is otherwise familiar territory with its serendipitous plotting and star-crossed characters. The shift to America, however, brings a certain freshness and Law is the best he's been in a while.
