The Man Who Knew Infinity (2015)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: col/2.39:1 108m
Director: Matthew Brown
Cast: Dev Patel, Jeremy Irons, Toby Jones

Synopsis:

Around the time of the First World War an autodidact from Madras is invited to work with Professor Hardy of Trinity College, Cambridge, thanks to his remarkable intuitive abilities in Pure Mathematics.

Review:

We seem to come here on film with an almost predictable regularity, but there is no doubt that the existence of prodigious talents in individuals acts as a considerable public draw when they are based on true stories. We rejoice at the marvels on display and delight at the skepticism of the prejudiced, especially when it is disabused. Add to that the barely concealed racism underpinning that skepticism, and you have a winner. Well, all this is handled with sufficient subtlety not to grate, and even if the Maths is over your head you can luxuriate in the velvet tones of an until recently underused Jeremy Irons.
