Synopsis:
A survivor of the Khmer Rouge genocide fills in the gaps in the historical record with his hand-carved figurines displayed in their various attitudes and settings while being indoctrinated, mistreated or taken to hospital to die.
Review:
A French narrator voices Panh's words, and such actuality footage as exists is used to offset the stark reality of the various tableaux, but for all its incalculable merit as an eye-witness testimony this is a long and not too cinematic haul.
