The Missouri Breaks (1976)
Country: US
Technical: col 126m
Director: Arthur Penn
Cast: Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, Harry Dean Stanton, Randy Quaid, Kathleen Lloyd
Synopsis:
A rancher clashes with a gang of rustlers when he hangs one of their number, and he calls in a regulator to hunt them down.
Review:
A messy Western, offering a believably messy image of life in Montana, along the Upper Missouri, before civilization had firmly rooted itself. The ragged editing and mumbled dialogue are at times too close to reality for comfort, but Brando's flamboyant performance as the Irish brogue talking, preacher impersonating, cross-dressing, horse serenading Robert Lee Clayton is always fascinating to watch.
