The Man Who Was Nobody (1960)
Country: GB
Technical: bw 58m
Director: Montgomery Tully
Cast: Hazel Court, John Crawford, Paul Eddington, Jack Watson, Lisa Daniely
Synopsis:
Private investigator Marjorie Stedman looks into the disappearance of a man who has purchased an expensive diamond with a rubber cheque, and finds a gambling ring is involved. But she is not the only interested party.
Review:
One of The Edgar Wallace Mysteries made at Merton Park Studios, this is set around the mews of South Kensington. Miss Stedman is permitted to be modestly sharp but is no dab hand in self-defence, making Court's heroine something of a lame duck, waiting for Crawford to come and do the rough stuff. Production values are solid for the time and budget (around £20,000), but the blocking is stagey and some of the acting on the ropey side.
