Les nuits de la pleine lune (1984)
(Full Moon in Paris)
Country: FR
Technical: col 102m
Director: Eric Rohmer
Cast: Pascale Ogier, Fabrice Luchini, Tchéky Karyo
Synopsis:
A young interior designer living with her boyfriend in the suburbs holds onto her apartment for herself, resolving to reclaim some personal space from her possessive lover. Needless to say, both fall victim to other temptations.
Review:
Set over four months, the film charts the growing insecurity and disenchantment Louise suffers as a result of her double existence ('Qui a deux femmes perd son âme; qui a deux maisons perd sa raison' is the proverbe of this instalment). The friend/admirer Octave (Luchini) throws these into relief with his theorising and unwelcome advances, but as usual it is the audience who guesses the truth first. Rohmer's self-deluding (and typically self-obsessed) heroine measures love according to another's dependence on her! Some dialogue in the man's best style and a superb performance from Luchini; Ogier died soon afterwards from a heart attack.
