Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
Country: US
Technical: DeLuxe 90m
Director: Jared Hess
Cast: Jon Heder, Jon Gries, Aaron Ruell, Efren Ramirez
Synopsis:
Smalltown Idaho: Napoleon lives with his mother and older brother, an unemployed thirty-year-old child who spends hours in the internet chatroom with his East coast soulmate. Napoleon makes friends with a Mexican newcomer to school who stands for class president and a creative girl who sells door-to-door trinkets. Meanwhile Mom has had an accident and they are 'looked after' by their football enthusiast/tupperware salesman uncle.
Review:
Another independent American film set in loserdom, reminiscent of Ghost World and Schizopolis in differing ways. Its antihero is deliberately unengaging in a cookie sort of way which may or may not trigger mirth, and the sound boom is seemingly omnipresent. A bit like watching a Russ Meyer film without the chicks.
