Review:
This otherwise very effective thriller has many familiar elements, which it successfully shrouds in mystery until at least halfway through, but cheats a little in suggesting supernatural forces at work from the outset. In addition, the husband's infidelity was perhaps one layer of coincidence too many. Nevertheless, filmically the shocks and suspense are most tastefully engineered (although the production had Universal money, and an American influence shows in the storyboarding, the sound design and the provocative foregrounding of Rueda's legs and bosom), and the performances are truthful enough to make you care. Besides, a Hollywood thriller would surely never end in such zen buddhist bleakness as this one.
