October 1917 (Ten Days that Shook the World) (1927)
(Oktyabr)
Country: USSR
Technical: bw 95m silent
Director: Sergei Eisenstein, Grigori Aleksandrov
Cast: Layaschenko, Nikolai Popov, Boris Livanov
Synopsis:
A Party-approved version of what happened when the Bolsheviks overturned the Russian monarchy.
Review:
Eisenstein places his dynamic editing at the service of the popular struggle which by this time had degenerated into civil war, in-fighting, and the replacement of Trotsky with Stalin. At times somewhat indigestible as history, this is now almost always substituted for actual footage of the revolution in documentaries.
