Olga's House of Shame (1964)
Country: US
Technical: bw 70m
Director: Joseph P. Mawra
Cast: Audrey Campbell, Judy Young, W. B. Parker, Ella Daphni
Synopsis:
A former brothel madam and dominatrix now runs her jewel smuggling operations from an abandoned mine, where she keeps assorted girls 'in bondage' and torments others who double cross her!
Review:
Divided between conventionally recorded scenes of banal dialogue, and extended 'action sequences' accompanied by cheesy, Mark Hellinger-style commentary, this tame and tedious piece of erotica purports to be a documentary exposé of Miss Olga's nefarious pursuits. Cue leering close-ups of clamps and whips, and low angle shots of the actresses' agonised gyrations designed to gratify the male gaze! The whole is backed by an incongruous use of Brahms' Third Symphony, and various Russian classics. Restored by Nicolas Winding Refn, it constitutes another rediscovery from the era of the 'nudie cuties', and one which only really gets going in the second half, where increased nudity and contrived scenes of pseudo-lesbian contact are indulged before being arbitrarily cut short.
